In Orlando, spooky season starts screaming for attention early. Mickey pumpkins show up while summer vacation is still going strong, and by the end of August, Universal Studios Florida is handing the night over to haunted houses and scare zones.

For 2026, Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party runs on select nights from August 7 through October 31. Universal’s Halloween Horror Nights follows from August 28 through November 1. That gives Halloween fans nearly three months to plan a trip and two very different events for conjuring up some thrills.

Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party Is the Family Pick

If your version of Halloween involves costumes, candy, Disney characters, and a parade rather than someone chasing you through the dark, start at Magic Kingdom.

Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party is a separately ticketed event held on select nights from August 7 through October 31, 2026. The party officially runs from 7 p.m. to midnight, and event ticket holders can enter Magic Kingdom beginning at 4 p.m.

That’s good news if you’re traveling with kids. The early entry makes it easier to grab dinner and get settled so everyone’s ready for a night of tricks and treats.

Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party brings out a different side of the Magic Kingdom. Mickey’s Boo-to-You Halloween Parade features costumed characters strolling down Main Street, U.S.A. alongside hitchhiking ghosts, the spectral bride, and some dastardly Disney villains. Later, the Sanderson Sisters from Hocus Pocus take over Cinderella Castle during the Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular, and the nighttime fireworks are hosted by Jack Skellington. Trick-or-treating happens throughout the park, too.

For 2026, Disney is also adding a masquerade in Tomorrowland featuring Stitch, Lilo, and Angel.

If you have younger kids who want a Halloween event made for them and parents who want to have fun too, Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party is the better pick.

Parent Tip: Don’t Treat It Like a Regular Magic Kingdom Day

The party has enough exclusive entertainment that trying to squeeze it onto the end of a full park day can backfire, especially with kids. If the Halloween party is the priority, take it easy during the day and save some energy for the evening. 

And yes, costumes are part of the fun. Disney has specific costume guidelines, including different rules for guests aged 14 and older, so be sure to read them before planning anything elaborate.

Universal’s Halloween Horror Nights Is a Very Different Night Out

Halloween Horror Nights is where the darker side of Halloween in Orlando gets to shine. 

The 2026 event runs on select nights from August 28 through November 1 at Universal Studios Florida. Universal has announced 10 haunted houses (including haunts inspired by Ozzy Osbourne, Stranger Things, Sinners, and Evil Dead Burn), scare zones like FORTNITEMARES and Club Horror, and live entertainment for this year’s event. It’s separately ticketed from regular park admission.

Universal is very clear about who Halloween Horror Nights is for and who it’s not for. Halloween Horror Nights may be too intense for young children and is not recommended for children under 13. Costumes and costume masks aren’t allowed.

Our advice is to take that recommendation seriously. This isn’t a family Halloween party with a couple of friendly ghosts haunting the park. There are scare actors, loud effects, graphic sets, dark spaces, and close-up surprises throughout the event.

If you’re a horror fan, that’s part of the appeal. If you’re a younger ghoul or goblin, maybe not so much. 

Mickey’s Not-So-Scary or Halloween Horror Nights?

The answer mostly comes down to who’s traveling.

Choose Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party if you want:

Families traveling with both little kids and older teens may even decide to split up for a night. One parent can take younger children to an age-appropriate activity while the horror fans head to Universal.

That way, older kids can prove that their brave face isn’t just an act, while no one has to spend vacation convincing an eight-year-old that the chainsaw was probably just for ambiance.

August and September Are Legit Halloween Months Here
